Aladin, the tailor

I am Aladdin, a tailor, husband, and father of three who now lives in America under refugee status. Our lives, my job, our history and culture were left in Syria. My dream hasn’t changed; I still want to secure stability for my family so they have a decent life, and to dedicate my skills and techniques to our new community.

Syriana provided me with the opportunity to pursue my dream in America, providing access to an industrial sewing machine, where I can hone my craft. Using Damask fabrics imported from small factories in my hometown of Aleppo, I’m able to create table runners, placements and napkin sets in traditional Syrian designs. Through these textiles, Syriana and I hope to share with you glimpses of our deep rich Syrian heritage that exemplify our arts and their beauties
